Following the sudden death of Judge Robert “Bob” Heaton Monday, the District 57 judge position will be placed on the ballot in November.
But first, a judicial nominating committee will appoint an interim judge to take over Heaton’s docket.
That committee is comprised of Kentucky Chief Justice John Minton, two attorneys and four citizens appointed by the governor, Nelson County Attorney John Kelley said. One of the committee’s recommendations must then be approved by the governor.
