A New Hope man who had been missing since last Tuesday was found dead early Sunday morning.

According to Nelson County Deputy Jamie Ferrie, Paul Edlin, 42, was found by friends of his family at Pottinger Creek near Dee Head Road in New Haven.

Members of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, the Rolling Fork Fire Department, Nelson County EMS and other volunteers searched for Edlin for several hours Saturday before his body was found the next day.

On Saturday, clothes belonging to Edlin were found near the area where his body was later found. His clothes included shorts, a T-shirt and a shoe. Ferrie said there was evidence that his clothes had been abandoned for several days.

Officials were on scene at Dee Head Road Saturday before making their way to Howardstown Road, where the search concluded for that day.

Edlin’s body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

Foul play is not suspected. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday. Brian Papenfuss, Nelson County deputy coroner, said autopsy results are typically returned in six to eight weeks. According to preliminary findings, Edlin’s death was by drowning.
