Board votes to pay for background checks

The Bardstown Independent School District will pick up the tab now that the Administrative Office of the Courts no longer funds criminal background checks for school volunteers.

The board voted Tuesday to pay the cost of $10 per background check rather than ask volunteers to pay it themselves.

“We want to encourage our parents to be involved with their children’s education as much as possible,” board member Margie Bradford said. “I wouldn’t want to add an extra burden to that parent who wants to do the right thing.”
