Bloomfield branch of the Nelson County Public Library announces “2013 Appetizers with the Authors” Series

-A A +A

The Bloomfield Branch of the Nelson County Public Library announces an upcoming 2013 “Appetizers with the Authors” Series which features several local authors and their works. The Series will be presented in the Meeting Room of the Bloomfield Branch the first Saturday of each month, beginning Jan. 5, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. The purpose of the Series is to meet the authors in person, hear them talk about the inspiration for their book and allow them to describe their writing process. Copies of their books will be available and they will personally sign already purchased copies.
The first featured authors of the Series are from the Bloomfield/Fairfield area. Gilly Simpson is the author of Pioneer Faith, which is a history of St. Michael’s Parish in Fairfield. The Parish was established in 1792 by a group of pioneers from Maryland and is the third oldest Catholic Parish west of the Allegheny Mountains. Many current parishioners from the Fairfield and Bloomfield areas can trace their ancestry back to those original 18th century settlers. Being from a family who has a long history in the St. Michael’s area, Mr. Simpson's book consists of both handed-down stories and extensive research to make Pioneer Faith readable and authoritative.
John Allen Boyd, author of Cigar Box Stories, spent his childhood in Dunedin, on the west coast of Florida and some adult time on the Simpson Farm in nearby Fairfield. Since then he is a proud Kentuckian and fascinated with the human comedy around him, certainly obvious in this book. It has sterling writing, humor, pathos and, on occasion, dialect from Nelson County! This collection of short stories, poetry and articles is for those who find interest in folklore and creative writing expressed through fascinating characters!
Simpson and Boyd will be on hand at the Bloomfield Branch of the Nelson County Public Library, 34 Arnold Lane, Saturday, Jan. 5, at 12:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the Bloomfield Branch Library at 502-252-9129.
