GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: Cards into title game

Nelson County picked up a 59-36 win over Western Hills in Friday’s semifinals of the Lady Redhawk Classic at Seneca, improving to 6-1 on the season in the process.

The Cardinals took on Western after press time in Saturday’s championship. The Warriors got to the finals by way of a 41-36 win over McCreary Central in the other semifinal.

In other action in the Seneca tournament, Bardstown bounced back from a first-round loss to thrash the host Redhawks, 45-17, and earn a place in Saturday’s fifth-place game against Jeffersontown, which occurred after press time.

Against Seneca, Bardstown fell behind 6-5 after the first quarter. The second frame is where the Tigers’ fortunes changed, however, as they outscored the Redhawks 13-0 during that period and ran away with it from there.

Kasia Stone’s 18 points led the way for the Tigers, as the senior outscored Seneca on her own.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: Generals blast C’ville

Thomas Nelson bounced back from Wednesday’s loss with a bang, routing host Campbellsville 61-35 in the Food Pantry Holiday Classic.

Ashley Ritchie dropped in 12 points and Evelyn Tichenor added 11 for the Generals, who improved to 5-4 on the season. Thomas Nelson also got it done on the glass, as Ritchie and Tichenor each grabbed double-digit boards, while Madison Fritz added nine rebounds to go with her seven points.

The Generals were in action Saturday after press time against John Hardin in the tournament’s fifth-place game.
