Lights, sounds and laughter will be returning to the fairgrounds this week as the 2017 Nelson County Fair officially kicks off Monday.

Tagged by organizers as “old-fashioned fun,” this year’s fair brings back the crowd favorites, from rides and games, to unique competitions and agricultural displays.

The fair will begin with the opening of the midway at 6 p.m. Monday. Monday’s competition event will be ATV and dirt bike racing at 7 p.m.

The open Miss Nelson County pageant will also be held at 8 p.m. Monday. Pageants continue with Little Miss and Mister and Miss Teen Nelson County Tuesday, and Tiny Tots and Pre-Teen Nelson County Wednesday.

Tuesday will be a family night, offering admission for $8 per person. A group prayer will take place at the pavilion at 6 p.m., and Tuesday will also kick off agriculture events with a pig show at 6 and bull riding and barrel racing at 8.

Wednesday will continue the agriculture events in the morning with the 4-H and FFA Beef Show at 10 a.m. and the Open Beef Show at 4 p.m. Thursday will also include morning agriculture events, and will introduce some unique entrainment with the Coca-Cola Talent Contest at 6 p.m. and a concert by Sticktight at 8 p.m.

Rounding out the week, Bourbon City Racing and the Truck and Tractor Pull are expected to draw a crowd Friday. Both events take place at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Cowboy Mounted Shooting will be held from 3-7 p.m., as well as the second night for the Truck and Tractor Pull. Fair events conclude with a concert from 100% Angus, a tribute to AC/DC, at 8 p.m. at the grandstands.

Admission to the fair, with exception of Tuesday’s Family Night, is $10 per person with no rain checks or refunds. The midway opens at 6 p.m.
